“Orthomosaic” sounds technical, but the concept is simple — and it’s one of the most useful deliverables a drone can produce for your site.

The plain-language version

An orthomosaic is a single, high-resolution, top-down image of your entire site, stitched together from hundreds of individual drone photos. Crucially, it’s been geometrically corrected so that every point is in its true position — which means you can measure distances and areas directly off the image accurately.

Think of it as a custom, up-to-date, centimeter-accurate satellite image of your specific site — captured today, not years ago.

Why that correction matters

A regular aerial photo has distortion — things near the edges lean, scale changes across the frame. You can’t reliably measure from it. An orthomosaic removes that distortion, so the image is dimensionally accurate everywhere.

If you’ve ever wished you had a precise, current, measurable map of your exact site — that’s an orthomosaic.

Who uses them

Site planners, estimators, engineers, and project managers all work from orthomosaics. They’re the foundation layer that other deliverables — volume reports, progress comparisons, planning overlays — are built on top of.
